Editorial standards
What every article meets before publication.
- Primary-source citation.Every numeric claim, regulation reference, or specific compensation amount links to the issuing authority: DOT, eur-lex.europa.eu, IATA, NAIC, national civil aviation authorities, and equivalents. We do not cite secondary sources for primary regulatory facts.
- Current regulatory accuracy.Articles are reviewed against the most recent versions of cited regulations. When rules change, affected articles are updated and the update date is recorded.
- Plain-language translation.Where regulations are dense, we translate them. We never simplify in ways that change the meaning.
- Practical application.Every claim-related article includes specific tactical guidance, not generic advice.
- Conflict-of-interest disclosure. When an article references a service we operate, the article identifies it clearly, and self-filing paths are always presented as alternatives.
Verification and fact-checking
How we confirm what we publish.
- Regulatory citationsVerified against the issuing authority's current text
- Currency amountsVerified against the most recent published figure (dollars, euros, SDR)
- Airline policy referencesVerified against the carrier's current Contract of Carriage or Conditions of Carriage
- Cross-checksAgainst FlyersRights.org, Travelers United, Consumer Federation of America, US PIRG where their published positions are relevant
- Editorial reviewFor clarity, factual accuracy, and tone before publication
Articles that use AI-assisted drafting are subject to the same fact-checking standards as fully human-authored pieces. We disclose AI assistance where it materially shaped the final article.
Corrections
When we get something wrong.

Ethics and transparency
The lines we won't cross.
- Independence.Editorial decisions are made by the editorial team and are not subject to approval by partners, advertisers, or service vendors.
- No paid placements. We do not accept paid placements or sponsored content disguised as editorial.
- Affiliate disclosures.Where an article includes a link to a service that pays us a referral fee, the link is disclosed as an affiliate link within the article.
- Source diversity. We prioritize primary regulatory sources and consumer-advocacy organizations. We minimize reliance on airline-published materials except where the airline's position is the subject of analysis.
- Privacy. When traveler stories are referenced, identifying details are anonymized unless the traveler has explicitly consented to publication.
Geographic and demographic perspective
A global topic treated globally.
Travel Intelligence publishes content covering travelers and aviation systems across the Americas, the Caribbean, Africa, Europe, and Asia. Our editorial team draws on lived expertise across the Caribbean, South America, North Africa, and East Africa. We treat passenger rights as a global topic and resist the common pattern of treating non-Western jurisdictions as edge cases.
